Type habitat: desert vegetation/steppe. In Afghanistan, occurs between 1000 and 2000 m a.s.l. and is anthropophillic (Artemiev, 1978a).

A vector of visceral leishmanaisis in China, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and other parts of Central Asia (Killick-Kendrick, 1990; Leng, 1988)
