Medical Importance

Proven vector of L. infantum in Italy and suspected in Greece, Rumania, Tunisia and Yugoslavia (Killlck-Kendrick, 1990; Lewis, 1982; Lewis & Ward, 1987; Maroil et al., 1987). Phlebovirus serotypes have been isolated from this species in Italy (Tesh, 1988; Verani et al., 1988).
